Highlights of 2010 at the Digital Man Cave

29 December 2010

Here at the digital man cave and all over the world the 2010 year is coming to a close. It’s the time of the year to reflect on the everything that has gone on; what was good and what was bad, what needs to change and what needs to happen more often. These past twelve months have been long and fraught with many changes and new beginnings. Here’s a couple highlights from the digital man cave, as well as some significant happenings around the web.

Make Success Your Soul Mate

29 December 2010

If ever there was a concept that could draw mixed emotions and stir up conversation among people it’s the idea of soul mates. The idea is that every person has a mate that is, through and through, their perfect compliment. Not just in their lifetime but in the expanse of time itself (for those that believe in having past and future lives).

Unsurprisingly this can cause a few problems in your life if you’re with someone in a serious relationship, and the question of soul mates comes up. Inevitably you will be asked “Am I your soul mate?” And you will be required to answer. If you believe they are, great. If you don’t, expect a tense conversation at minimum.

I have a suggestion for putting a stop to that drama before it starts. You make success your soul mate.

Tis the Season for Honesty

26 December 2010

This holiday season I’ve been reminded of a rather simple concept that ends up being executed in very complicated ways. Honesty.

Meeting Two Unconventional People

22 December 2010

For the first time in my life, I can say I met and talked with a celebrity. Two actually. In one 4 hour period. And I didn’t even do anything remotely fanboy-ish. Except for calling another grown man svelt. But nothing else. Honest.

A couple weeks back I got to spend a little bit of time with two very well-known bloggers (well known in the blogging world I suppose, although each has had plenty of traditional media exposure) Chris Guillebeau and Leo Babauta. The event was an experience to be sure.

Mastering Education: Week 27

12 December 2010

Today’s words from the digital man cave are a dip back into the goodie bag to see what the world of higher education has been bringing to the table. It has been 10 weeks since the last update of this nature, and another quarter has come and gone. Papers have been completed, tests have been taken, projects have been completed, student satisfaction surveys have been filled out, and grades have been entered.

By all accounts it has been an interesting ride so far, and I’ve learned something that I’d like to share.

There is a disturbing number of liars and sadists working at institutions of higher education. And the liars are the worst because they lie about being sadists.

Project Update: GoM

8 December 2010

Back in July of this year I posted about the launch of a side project that I had a few fingers in. It is one of many, but it is one of few that actually get face time here at the digital man cave. In the last few months I have been working in the background with a few individuals to try to create not just a website, but a property.

Things have been moving along, pretty much like clockwork, so I thought now would be a good time to give the official update.

Here we go.
